Enjoying a croissant while sitting on a wrought-iron bench next to a fountain, a candy wrapper found in an old childhood backpack, a rusty tin of old postcards besides vintage coin purses; this is the kind of rich soil from which my ideas grow. As a designer, I draw inspiration from the small details and nostalgic aspects of everyday life to create playful and whimsical clothing. I’m Kaylen Hou, a fashion designer specializing in women’s ready-to-wear, with a passion for outerwear and knitwear. Blending functionality with fun, I want the wearer of my designs to feel invigorated with a fresh wonder at the world around them, ready to take their next little adventure.

I have gained hands on experience designing for the industry through our design house, Cute Kaboom, which my mother and I started together. Cute Kaboom is an online store specializing in Asian cute and kawaii style stationery and lifestyle products. Kaylen is the Art Director and Designer, creating new characters and stationery lines as well as managing the company's social media presence. I have also learned how to source products and communicate with overseas vendors.

Besides design, I am also a competitive swimmer on SCAD's swim team. I have been swimming for 13 years. Through the sport I have learned dedication, goal setting, how to be a team player, and time management.
