MORNING LIGHTS
This piece is the final project for my Intro to Fashion course at SCAD. The criteria was an all white avant-garde piece. My concept was based off of one of my simple joys of life: morning sunlight coming through sheer curtains into a bedroom. This is a very specific and nostalgic thing for me.
---
I wanted to capture the textures of sheer curtains and soft linen, the glow of morning sunlight, and the patterns that sunlight makes as it streams through curtains or window blinds.

TECHNICAL FLATS

The grid pattern of the coat puffs could be reminiscent of window panes, or a puffy down comforter on a bed.
The coat is made of organza stuffed with battery operated fairy lights. I wanted to capture the soft luminescence of morning sunlight coming through the windows and sheer curtains.
Another element of my concept that I wanted to explore were the patterns created by sunlight shining through curtains or blinds.

To incorporate this into the design, I used pearlescent fabric paint to paint on an abstracted sunlight pattern onto the dress. It almost looks like light coming through slatted blinds.
